Do you ever wonder what preemies see/remember? Are they getting wrinkles in their brain when they see new things? I mean, technically Nora and Bryn aren’t REALLY supposed to be able to do ANYTHING until November 5th. They’re like negative 3 months old! They’re supposed to be swimming around my belly right now, not learning things. These are the things I think about at 4:30am when I’m awake and tethered to an industrial strength milker (Nick’s name for the hospital-grade breast pump they sent us home with).

So as long as they’re here, and we can’t physically introduce any of you to them yet, we thought it might be fun to start introducing you to them via your words and pictures. Then we’ll quiz them on their actual due date and see if they remember you. So there’s a little bit of pressure here–make yourself memorable! Here’s how this is gonna work:

We’ve set up email addresses for Nora and Bryn. You can email them directly and they’ll check it on their tiny laptops in their isolettes! OR, if they’re not feeling particularly techy that day, we will copy and paste your email onto a cute little card, print it out, read it to them, and then pin it up on the huge, currently-blank bulletin boards in their rooms (yes, they each actually have their own room–Children’s Minneapolis is pretty fancy that way). Children’s also has their own Geek Squad unit on site that will print out pictures for us everyday, so be sure to also attach a picture of yourself (we haven’t figured out if they are visual learners or auditory learners yet, so you’d better cover all your bases if you want to be remembered). You could be blowing them a kiss, signing I-love-you, or holding/high-fiving/doing something awesome with them via a little program called PhotoShop (ok this one might be geared more toward our photographer/graphic designer friends, but let’s be honest–there are a lot of you). Maybe you’ll even get a blog shout out!

So let the games begin! Come on. It’s Monday, you’re bored at work, and hell, I bet you’ve never emailed a baby before! The girls are gonna LOVE you!

If you don’t want your message printed out in some lame Times New Roman-esque font on whatever paper we can dig up (yeah, I’m reading your minds, designer friends), you are also welcome to send us a pdf so that your font/color choices are perfectly preserved and the girls don’t develop premature judgments about your taste. If you are REALLY picky, or just want to make them feel super special, you can even mail your note directly to the little ladies! Here are their addresses:

Bryn Windschitl

We’ve already gotten so many sweet emails and blog comments from all of you, it seems a shame to not share your awesomeness with our babes! Since our little chicas are on the extended stay plan at the NICU, we also really want to make their rooms feel home-y and personal. Maybe it will even make their brains more wrinkly. Or maybe it will just keep the nurses entertained. Whatever–it’s a win-win!

Happy writing!

Sara & Nick
